This is by no means the only way to setup a V-Ray scene in Maya and is completely based on my own preferences which I learnt from other online resources like the online documents. Before taking any step further I always position my camera to my favorite angle and make sure to save a bookmark so I can remember the camera position, it helps me focus on my lighting for one particular camera angle. Make sure you go to your plugin directory and load vrayformaya.mll 4. Add a V-Ray Dome Light to the scene. Since we are not going to use the Dome Light color go to the Dome Light Attribute Editor and check Use Dome Tex in the texture panel and click the checker box. In this Quick Tutorial I want to show you the basics of setting up a Vray Material in Maya. It is a really straight forward renderer so its pretty easy to use. I will show you how to use reflection and refraction parameters inside the Vray Material and will show you what the important checkboxes like fresnel.
